Vizulate shortlisted for Dev Award

An innovative website designed and developed by Vizulate Digital on behalf of our client JB Springs, has been shortlisted in the ‘Innovation’ category at the 2020 Northern Dev Awards!

JB Springs 48 is the brand new e-commerce website for Skipton-based spring manufacturer John Binns & Son Springs.

The website has been nearly two years in development and has gradually evolved during that time to now offer, what we believe, is the slickest, most comprehensive online custom spring buying experience in the world.

The website allows the user to create and order over 200 million product (spring) variations based on their inputs. At each stage of the specification and design process, a dynamically created diagram will show the user’s spring.

The site provides this exact same functionality and smooth user experience on desktops, tablets, and mobiles – replicating this experience without diluting it on mobile devices was a particularly significant challenge but was ultimately overcome.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the innovators of the project – JB Springs, and their experienced spring engineers’ ability to teach us some of the complex mathematics of spring design in a way we’d understand.

Their idea for the site came about as a result of other spring manufacturers yet to embrace digital and in particular the e-commerce opportunity.

Currently, most spring manufacturers provide an online or even printed, catalogue of springs that are pre-manufactured and constantly kept in stock – which can be ordered online or over the phone. The biggest differences is these are ‘stock’ springs, not custom springs made to the user’s exact requirements.

The site is not only aimed at people that buy from spring catalogues currently, and probably understand spring terminology – such as engineers and designers, but also the people that don’t, and may need some guidance.

For this reason, the site offers tool tips and over 20 specifically created video animations to educate and guide the user through every possible aspect of specifying a spring during the online specification process.

Speaking about being shortlisted, Vizulate Digital, director Scott Brant said:

“To have one of our projects shortlisted in the Innovation category is a fantastic achievement for the agency and is the culmination of almost two years of work creating a website for JB Springs that is a game-changer within the spring manufacturing sector.

“The site build was fairly complex, spending time working alongside the JB Springs team to implement a lot of maths into the back-end design to ensure the correct springs are presented based on variations in tension and load-bearing requirements as well as a host of other variables that are required to specify a spring.

“Sourcing and buying springs via a catalogue is outdated in today’s e-commerce society, and JB Springs turned to us to help them become the first spring manufacturer to offer engineers and designers the ease of sourcing the exact spring they need using an intelligent, online platform.”

Overall, the Northern Dev Awards will feature 31 categories celebrating the work of agencies, companies, and individuals who are providing innovative work in their field.

The awards ceremony will take place on the 25th of February 2020 at the fantastic venue, Manchester Hall.
